It is particularly useful for companies or organizations interested in using biomass in their ventures. The tool is freely available online.
The Geographic Information System: Forest Energy Atlas allows the user to spatially explore the potential for energy wood and other assortments. The online map tool has collected harvesting potential of different forest biomasses in Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. It is particularly useful for companies and organizations interested in using biomass to increase the capacity in an existing or future pulp and paper industry, sawmill, biorefinery, or heating plant. The Forest Energy Atlas is available, includes an integrated user guide and is already used by companies and research projects from the participating countries.
The assortments available from the countries integrated in the online map tool differ due to the varying background data provided. However, the window is by no means shut for future additions of regions or assortments. The researchers who worked on the tool stand at the ready should a suitable project arise.
The Forest Energy Atlas was developed within the Interreg Baltic Sea Region funded Baltic ForBio Project.
